It's very unusual that someone predicts your future job early in life, but when my mom told me to "shut up," the wheels were put in motion. I started listening to what people call "boring radio" (Talk) at the age of 10. I would sit in my room, listening to the news and weather, then tape my own version of it. It was a little scary, but I still did normal kid things, like climb trees, and make fun of girls. My hobbies didn't really endear me to getting any girls, so I had to make fun of them.
Then came college. I was all over the place, starting in Michigan at Grand Valley State University...where my roommates and I were single-handedly responsible for he banning of portable grills in or around the dorms. It's a funny story, you should ask me about it sometime.
But housing didn't work out in "Laker Country", and I ended up at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, IL.
But that's only a 2 year school, so I finally settled on Columbia College Chicago, where the "dream" became reality. I worked on the college station on 2 different shows...a late night heavy metal show, and a comical talk show. The metal thing didn't work out because of certain, let's call them "maturity" issues, but the talk show circuit worked just fine, even winning a college broadcasting award for "Best Collegiate Talk Show." My co-host (the actual host of the show) has gone on to Columbus, OH...where he has his own show on their ESPN radio affiliate, he is also doing TV work, and runs his own documentary company. Who knew?
From there I interned at XLC's sister station WKRS...where I was hired shortly thereafter for Afternoon News. I then got bumped to the mornings, took on the XLC duties and the rest is history.
Things I like: Hockey, Baseball, Hockey, My Wife, Hockey, Music, and Hockey (I think)...oh yeah, there is that kid of mine as well. HA!
Things I don't particularly care for: Soccer (Snooze), Bad Radio, Gas Prices and people who don't know how to drive (I'm better than you, trust me)
I try to blog everyday, it's usually not serious, and it's definitely a more "off the air Tim" kind of thing. Check it out whenever by using the link at the top of the page. And drop me an e-mail line whenever.
